Dear Coastal Spirits!
You provided a wonderful tour. I'm sure your other Sea Kayaking trips
are just as fascinating. Thank you so very much again

Janice Mucalov, National Geographic Travel Guide

Info about the Orcas:
"Killer whale" is commonly used, but definitely not the right word for this beautiful, very intelligent animal with its highly developed social structures and its complex songs.

Johnstone Strait, located between northern Vancouver Island and the Coast Mountains is the summer home for one the largest resident Orca population (approx. 300 animals) in the world.

There are three different types of Orcas: resident, transient and off-shore. The resident Orcas of Johnstone Strait usually arrive at the beginning of July and stay until October, feeding on salmon.

With our sea kayaks, we have the highest success rate viewing the resident animals in their natural environment.

On our trips you learn about feeding and social behaviours of the whales and how to identify the whales by their different dorsal fins and saddle patches. When the animals communicate we can listen to them with our hydrophones.

Our team of expert kayakers, experienced in paddling for many years with the killer whales, will guide you safely through the waters of Johnstone Strait.

We also use underwater microphones (hydrophones) to listen to the songs and sounds of the Orcas. We'll visit whale researchers (weather and ocean permitting) and live in a base camp on a very remote beach where our privacy is ensured. This is a trip you won't soon forget.

Please note: The exact itinerary of your trip could be modified by factors such as weather and tides.

Trip Itinerary day 1-4:
In the morning of day 1 transport Quadra Island/Campbell River to Johnstone Strait.
Kayak introduction and safety procedures. We will paddle in Johnstone Strait, enjoy the marvellous scenery and the crystal clear ocean. It happens often that Orcas approach our kayaks and our camp site. Humpback whales, dolphins, bald eagles, sea lions and even bears searching for food along the shoreline can be seen during our trips in these famous waters. In the evenings we enjoy delicious dinners, sweatlodges and campfires.
After hearty breakfasts we leave our base camp for day excursions. Depending on weather conditions and group desires, we sometimes move the camp. We listen to the songs of the whales with our hydrophones.
Day 4 return to Campbell River. End of a memorable journey.
